Institute of Intelligent Machines of Hefei Institutes (IIM) of Physical Science (HFIPS), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), is located on the scenic Science Island in the western suburbs of Hefei, the capital of Anhui Province.
Originally established in October 1979 as the East China Institute of Automation Components and Instrumentation Technology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the institute underwent restructuring in May 2020.
It merged with the former Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Institute of Technology Biology and Agricultural Engineering, and Institute of Applied Technology under HFIPS, as well as the former Institute of Intelligent Machinery, to form a new institute according to their disciplinary direction.
IIM concentrates its efforts on areas such as intelligent manufacturing, big data and artificial intelligence, modern agriculture, and biotechnology. The institute is dedicated to solving fundamental scientific problems and developing key technologies that have widespread applications. Through practical demonstrations and industrial cultivation, it promotes the utilization of intelligent science and technology in agriculture, healthcare, and manufacturing. By leveraging innovative resources, leading disciplinary advancements, driving technological progress, and establishing itself as a renowned research institution both domestically and internationally, the institute strives to excel.
IIM possesses research teams primarily composed of young and exceptional talents, comprising 246 employees and nearly 400 graduate students. It consists of a comprehensive management department and seven research centers.
