Prof. LI Lina, a researcher fellow from Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was invited to the Institute of Intelligent Machines on July 19, 2018.
During the visit, she conducted an academic report entitled “Application of Shanghai Light Source X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy Station (XAFS) in the Environmental Field”, which was presided over by Prof. HUANG Xingjiu.
Prof. LI firstly introduced the national large-scale scientific device, Shanghai Light Source, and detailed the functions and main scientific objectives of the first batch of beam lines in Shanghai and the 16 advanced beam line stations to be constructed.
Then, Prof. LI took a recently published paper for example to illustrate the application of XAFS in the environmental field, including X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES), the extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS), scanning transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM) and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF).
Prof. LI introduced the role of XANES for the study of the surface bonding mechanism, EXAFS for the surface complex structure of elements, STXM for researching element - microbial-mineral interaction and XRF for the elemental distribution.
In addition, Prof. LI also kindly reminded the preparation requirements of environmental samples.
Finally, Prof. LI actively communicated with teachers and students and answered their questions, including how to conduct experiments, acquire information, deal with XAFS spectrum, etc. Teachers and students attending the report said they had benefited a lot.
Prof. LI made a lot of effort on multi-dimensional in situ research of advanced materials based on XAFS method, adsorption based on XAFS method and removal of pollutants in the environment.
So far, Prof. LI has published many papers in famous journals such as Analytical Chemistry, Water Research, Sensors and Actuators B.
Moreover, she published a monograph named "Health Risk Assessment of Heavy Metal Contaminants in Shanghai Water Environment".
